I like AR15 rifles more than carbines, and have a pre-ban Colt HBAR upper on my S&W M&P15 lower. I previously owned a Colt Govt Carbine, IIRC, a 6920; too short of a sight radius for my aging eyes, and too light in the front end for steady shooting. I also have Mini-14s, which I prefer for HD/SD, so I don't need a carbine-length AR15.

If I spend money on another Colt carbine, it might be the one with the monolithic rail that is one piece with the receiver. I am only likely to do this if unable to eventually certify with a Mini-14 at work. I am certified to use an AR15 as a patrol rifle; I am on a waiting list to be trained/certified to carry a Mini-14. I just don't really care for the AR15 for CQB, though it makes a fine longer-range rifle. This is my opinion and preference; others like the AR15 just fine for CQB.

Edited to add: The Colt carbine I referred to above is the ALEC; Advance Law Enforcement Carbine. I like the flip-down front sight, making it easy to use an Aimpoint Micro T-1, which is my favorite optic for CQB. Sorry. the Colt site won't load for me right now, so I don't know the four-numeral-digit model. This is a link to the upper from Brownells:

I use a Colt 6920 for defense and range. I would opt for a 6940 as a secondary in the Colt lineup.

I have aging eyes as well.. this was the cure for the short sight
radius.. an eotech 512 ...that and I use shooting glasses with my computer glasses prescription which is very good
for a focus on the front sight blade when you are far sighted.
