Question on single and 2 stage triggers

    Whatup fellas,
I'm new to the AR game. Looking to upgrade my trigger setup on my M&P 15 but not sure what are the differences between a single stage and a 2 stage trigger.

get a 2stage... a "normal" trigger is a 1 stage.. 1 pull, the same, all the way...

a 2 stage is say a "4.5 pound" trigger.. stage 1 is 2.5, then you will feel a stop and the 2nd is 2 pounds

this allows you to "prestage" the trigger at the "break point" and have a light 2# pull..

I'll add a little more to that.

In a 2-stage trigger, in the first part of the trigger pull you move the trigger through maybe 3/8 inch of travel at a low but noticeable resistance. Then your finger runs into some resistance; this is the second stage, which operates at that point like a single stage trigger. Squeeze with a higher force, and the gun fires.

A lot of military guns (but not the M-16/AR-15 and clones) employ 2-stage triggers. You might not want one on a hunting gun, but I prefer it on my ARs... a highly personal preference.

The number of stages won't have any bearing on accuracy - but the final force to break the sear engagement and trigger "creep" will. A decent gunsmith can clean up the trigger on your AR for about the same price as drop-in parts.
