For what it's worth, this post is almost 3 years old and I have since been through an Eotech and currently have an Aimpoint C3 on my AR. I'm considering getting a micro and using my C3 on the Marlin 336 I plan on buying.
Check out the lucid HD 7 red dot. read the reviews on it. It's one good quality optic at a price that won't shock you. As for the eotechs, I have been told by the senior instructor at a nationaly known firearms training facility that they see everything made come thru their tactical rifle courses. I am told Eotechs don't do well, they don't hold up. He says the optics with the least problems are the aimpiont PRO and also the Lucid HD 7 and one other aimpoint that I can't think of right now. They push their students and their equipment pretty hard all day long and if it's gonna fail it will fail there.
