I hate my brother!! CMP Garand Battle Rifle

Dang it!! My lucky dog brother just got a CMP Garand. It is all H&R with a Springer trigger group.

Here is his description from the email I just received:

It is a 1955 model so it is post war, but was on loan to one of our allies. I nearly crapped when I saw how good condition it was in, but it may have seen duty…it has the impressions in the stock where somebody smacked a clip against it to seat the ammo. Usually forbidden, but was done in the heat of battle…can’t say for sure…at any rate, it wasn’t the U.S. military. Beautiful piece of work….and of course Martin Brody’s rifle of choice to kill sharks.

The wood is stamped with an original cartouche, which means that it was inspected and found suitable for use by the U.S. military…some out there were manufactured that didn’t receive those stamps…I was amazed that the barrel is still as “blued” or black as it is.

I can’t believe how fantastically simple they are.

I'm jeolous too. Always wanted one and now they are so expensive I won't pay the price. Just a memory thing from my days in the Army that makes me want one. I know there are better and more accurate rifles out there but I still like them.

I really liked pictures of units I served with and the progression of firearms thru the years,I think the M16 and variants have been in service the longest

Fantastic rifle, a year and a half ago I had to make a run to Texas and since Anniston, AL just happens to be on the way I just had to stop off. After just standing drooling for a while I picked out a Springfield an IH and a Winchester plus a Winchester carbine and 1000 rounds of 30/06. My credit card is still recovering but it is such a joy shooting a piece of American history.

A Field Grade from the CMP is not that much - $495. And ammo from the CMP is $0.50/round.
