    Bought my AR today.

I just bought one of the M&P ARs from CDNN. $740 shipped, plus I'll get $100 bucks back from the rebate. $640 for an M&P-15 AR. You can't beat it with a stick.

Use the extra cash you get back. It's nothing to burn up $100 bucks of ammo at the range.

Sounds like a pretty good snag there Timmy. About your ammo question, last time I was in Ohio Wal-mart had decent deals on 100 round federal 55 gr .223 packs. I don't know about the best place, I usually just pick up some packs of whatever seems like a decent price. Aim and Vances are both usually pretty good on ammo prices too.

Now you just need to accessorize.

Is that one 5.56 or .233 only?

Congrats on your new AR! Gosh! That's got to feel good. Ya know...it's been a long time for me and I sort of envy you with the first. Hope it does well by you. Best thing you can do is buy bulk with the 5.56 or .223. Split a bulk buy with some friends and it will be a good deal. I still have some 20rd boxes that cost me $3.25 each. Those days are gone. Check and see what the going price is for a case of 500 through TDSUS (forum sponsor) and do your math.

If you are truly on a budget -
You can purchase cheap Russian made .223 at Cabela's for $3.99 for 20 rounds (I don't know where you live so I don't know if Cabella's is close).
Make sure you REALLY clean your AR afterwords, though.
It leaves a lot of residue behind because the powder burns slower.
Periodically (every 200 rounds or so) run a magazine of brass rounds through it to pick up the excess steel that is left during shell case expansion.
The brass will expand and pull any steel out of the chamber that was left behind.
Be sure to take a cleaning rod with you to the range because I have read (not witnessed) that sometimes the brass rounds will not eject because of the steel left behind.

Personally, I don't shoot the stuff any more although it always went bang when I squeezed the trigger.

I shop at ammunitiontogo.com. Usually good prices, good customer service. I find online is cheaper than local even with shipping (no sales tax helps). About the best I can do anywhere is 35 cents a round, usually 45-50 cents/round. The only issue with the Russian stuff is that it is very dirty IMO. The only thing about ordering online is the UPS man hates the delivery 'cause a thousand rounds can weigh a few pounds, LOL.

Another suggestion for shooting on the cheap is to pick up a .22 conversion kit. It will pay for itself in a few trips to the range. They are OK for plinking and as an added benefit, you can shoot at most indoor ranges with the 22. Most do not let you shoot .223/5.56. My CMMG kit and six mags cost me $300, and after a thousand rounds you are way ahead price wise.
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

Surplusammo.com has some pretty good prices on .223.

Also, I think AIM recently had PMC X-Tac M855 for $309/1k. I recently burned through half a case of this in a class, and liked it.
