Difference between 7.62x51 vs 308 ... the facts
Hey yall, though id post this article I found, its pretty good. There seems to be a lot of misinformation on the net about 7.62 vs 308, especially when it come to the max pressures. I would say generally, if you have a high quality rifle and high quality ammo, you could use either 308 or 7.62 nato. The main differences are the allowable exterior dimensions, case thickness (nato slightly thicker), and max pressures (62k psi vs 61/60k psi). For some reason, everyone thinks that the 7.62 max pressure is 50k psi... its not... its 50k CUP, or about 61/60k psi. (CUP =/= PSI)
Here is the article:

An excellent read, The conclusions are predictable but the research appears extraordinary.

Welcome to the forum! Good first post, but this sort of ordeal gets reiterated rather frequently. Just like the .223 vs 5.56. The .308 vs 7.62x51 is a good reminder. Safety should always be the number one concern. Thanks for posting.

Good first post. Most folks know about civilian counter part to to military ammo.
