Mini-14 muzzle threading?
I might be purchasing a Ruger Mini-14 for a decent price from a family member. I'll be able to test it thoroughly before I buy it. If it proves to be very reliable and accurate enough to hit a man sized target at 100 yards then I'll get it. It's only use is for fun plinking and shtf duties. So inherent accuracy isn't important, only practical accuracy matters.
It's an early model and is blued. I won't go to crazy with mods. Only add a buttstock spare mag holder, sling, and maybe a Surefire. I do want to add some form of flash hider, but I refuse to use the crappy pin-on ones from cheaperthandirt.com. So is there any way I can thread the muzzle and add a Vortex flash hider? Or will this be tgotally illegal?

I know it's a pin on, but it works. I have had one on my Mini for 20 years.

Around here lots of people are putting 1/2-28 TPI on them.
Thats the same thread as the AR and it opens up a lot more options...
even so, lots of people put the standard birdcage flash suppressor on them. It looks pretty good.

QKSHOOTER you are killing me with that link. Since I've seen those rifles I will now have to spend half a years gun money to make my Mini-14 (if I get it) into one of the coolest tactical rifles on the planet.
How does this sound? Standard Package blued. Get the 16" bull barrel with the linear brake. Add a 3 blade tritium front sight. "Urban Brawler" handguard, might be the single coolest mod for the Mini-14 and I can add an EoTech or Aim-Point to it. Replace the factory stock with a black/grey laminate stock. Also have a small picitanny rail added to the side of the stock for a Surefire light. All coated in a black Duracoat or whatever they have thats black and durable.
Sounds about perfect, but a little expensive. I better start saving my pennies.

Yeah some of those Minis are really cool looking. And a little more unique than an AR.

My old Mini has a brake (forget source) which is secured by four set screws - not ideal initially but I machined four ''dimples'' at 90º and then did the thing up on those with locktite - it has never moved. While front sight was off (boy, was that ever a **** to remove!) added a ventilated handguard also.
I could have set the thing up in lathe to thread it but was too darned lazy!
