Joining CMP Organization
Hello all,
I am currently planning on purchasing a CMP Garand as a present to myself before leaving for Coast Guard Boot Camp on JAN18. However, I am not currently affiliated with a CMP organization. Is there a way to join an organization while at the North Store? Or is there an organization that I am able to join online and get some form of proof that I am affiliated with them in order to satisfy the CMP requirement? I would wait until I am active duty to purchase the rifle, but I would prefer to pick it out in person instead of ordering blindly through the mail.
Many Thanks,

Join the NRA. You can join on-line and then print out a receipt.

Or if you own Glock/s, you can join GSSF. They are now able to partake of the CMP organization

Here is a link from their website to help find a club you can join.

There is also the Garand Collectors Association (http://www.thegca.org) that does exactly what you want to do - go online, pay and your membership is electronically sent to the CMP (once a week, on Mondays).

I would wait til after Boot Camp, after you get 8 weeks of doing push-ups and a bunch of drills with it you might hate it. that gun gets real heavy after a while.
The gun is awesome though.
If you wait til after boot camp you should be able to send in your military info and your range sheet (CG-3029). and that should satisify there prerequsites(sp).

I second his suggestion. go to boot and get your military creds. much easier. good luck.

Also when you finally end up sending your order in, be sure to put a little note in there if you're not interested in a presentation gun but more a shooter. I purchased an HRA M1 Garand Service grade and I added the note, "Please send me a shooter, I don't buy guns to collect them" and I was given one with a brand new barrel. Now I'm not saying this is typical, but hey it's worth a try.

A military ID satisfies the requirement, just wait until after boot. I bought myself an M-4gery to celebrate graduating boot camp.
