Question Getting a gas plug for my M1 Garand

    I'm getting this.

    http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...la=ProductDesc

Does anyone have any experience with these? I want to shoot commercial loads out of my Garand and heard if I don't get one of these I'll bend my op rod. I saw on Youtube that when you get it, it's default setting is fully open to release ALL the gas. Basically you get one shot and it doesn't cycle. Then you click it 1/4" inch every time until you get it to cycle correctly. Am I in the ballpark here?

How would this work if I wanted to shoot heavier loads? Or is what I set it to the first time specific for that load? I want to shoot my Garand, I have a ton of modern 30-06 ammo and really I'm really having a hard time finding old ammo. I figure this would be a the cheapest way to go about it.

    Thanks for the help.

It has been awhile since I put one in my Garand, but I think you are right about how to adjust it. Every time you change your load to something different than the M2 ball ammo (which you can get in bulk from the CMP), you open up the gas plug and back it in until the gun functions properly. If you record the setting each time you switch, then pretty soon you just need to look up what the proper setting needs to be.
