    House Shotgun

I got a Remington 870 12 ga. Wingmaster laying around im presently not doing anytrhing with. I would like to convert it to a short barrelled house gun. If y'all have a pump shotgun you have for HD. post some pics...im fishing for ideas. What works for you? My mind and eyes are wide open.

Here is ours. OK, technically my wife's. She just lets me shoot it.

Rem 870, Knox stock, and Fenix O light. Ignore the lanyard, it was still attached to the light when I took the pic.

What is the shortest length you can trim a shot gun barrell down to and still be legal? is it 18''?

For a HD shotgun, I like to keep things simple. Short barrel, between 18.5-20 inches. A like magazine extension tubes for a few more rounds, but 5 should be enough. I usually keep a normal stock on it. A light is next on the list, and a good addition. A practical sling, and then maybe something to carry extra rounds on the weapon. I usually use an elastic sleeve on the buttstock for that.

Other than that, I don't get too crazy with HD shotguns, no lasers, or dual pistol grips, or folding stocks or anything like that.

    Correct.
I'd suggest that you purchase a replacement barrel. No question as to correct length and will have proper choke.
The situation will NEVER BE THE WAY YOU WANT, it WILL BE THE WAY IT IS. You must be FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO ADAPT and just "DEAL WITH IT".

Agreed, that way you can transition back to the longer barrel if you ever want to for anything else.

Just bought this 2 weeks ago...7+1 of 12 ga. Very simple. No extra doodads. That wingmaster is one of the best HD shotguns you could have. Get you an 18" barrel or get yours shortened and you will be good. If you want extra rounds get a sidesaddle or bandoleer or butt stock shell holder. Leave it simple.

Here's an old thread of how I did mine. I removed the forearm pistol grip, it didn't suit me.
In reality any old shotgun will do. If you've expended 4 or 5 rounds at home from your shotty and still have a problem... you've got a PROBLEM!

I've got my F-in-L's old 1100 that hasn't been used for years. It keeps begging me to buy a 20" deer barrel and mag extension and restore its pride by assigning it HD duty. I think I'll listen to it. Just the ticket to have when hurricanes run over top of us and people get desperate.

    Cool

1974 Wingmaster with brushed nickle finish, pro ported barrel, adjustable poly choke, side saddle, synthetic full pistol grip stock and foregrip and tactical sling. I know it is a little bright in the sunlight but when I moved to Florida in the mid 70's I was concerned with the saltwater rust factor I went a little over the top.

May we never forget those in uniform who protect us night and day in lands far away. And those in all wars who paid the supreme sacrifice in defense of our country. May God Bless our Troops and First Responders.

I have a stock 870P -- bead sight, 18.5" barrel, extended magazine. Seems sufficient.

Sometimes less is more. I am delighted with my 870P, as is, and it doesn't even have an extended magazine; it's just 4 plus 1. Different strokes...
