New Rifle and a Range Report

So a few weeks ago I purchased the DPMS Nato 7.62 Oracle.
I mounted a fairly inexpensive 3x9-40mm scope on it and sighted it in a couple of weeks ago.

Last Sunday, my neighbor invited me up to his farm house and wanted to do some shooting so I brought it with me.

We set the target up at 100 yards via his range finder.

The first shot - neighbor reported that I had a bullseye.
Cool. Like THAT will ever happen again.

The second shot - my neighbor reported that it was a complete miss.
Couldn't see the second hole anywhere on the target.
Looking through the scope, I couldn't see any other holes either.
So I safed the firearm and we did the 100 yard walk to see the results.

After looking at it closely, the second shot about topped the first.

Attached is the pic because I couldn't believe it either.
A penny could have covered both holes.
I have never posted a pic of my targets before because they are typically nothing to write home about.

I went ahead and let my neighbor and his son shoot the rest of the box.

And if you are wondering, yes, a bipod was used.

Impressive! I'd love an AR-10 some day.

I'd like to hear some more details about how the gun worked after the first two shots.
I havenít heard any of the journalists who volunteered to be waterboarded asking to have their fingernails wrenched out with pliers, or electrodes attached to their genitals.

I'm sure it worked just fine....since the other two finished off the box.

    Congrats on a AR-10

    It worked very well.
I have had only 40 rounds through it.

I am going through DPMS breakin procedures.
Somewhat a pain in the behind.
Clean bore each time for first 20 rounds.
Then clean bore once every 20 rounds for the next 200 rounds.
Then they consider the barrel to be broke in.

Sounds like a good one to put some meat on the table.

I've been looking at these but have put it off because of the short barrel. Wish they came with a 20 or 22 barrel and a longer forearm. Maybe my concerns are unfonded though. What ammo was used?

The nice thing about .308 / 7.62 Nato is that it seems to be a round which is least affected by barrel length. You just don't lose a whole lot of performance out of the shorter barrels.

MoResident, great gun and very nice shooting. Please keep us updated with more in depth reports as you get more time with the gun. I'm definitely interested in getting one of those. It really seems to be a tac driver.
