I really like my brand new Remmington 870 express magnum chambered in 3\"

There are lots of cool toys that i can bolt on, and for home defense i cant think of a better bang stick than a good old 12 ga.

Sound off folks...What have you got?

I guess I have to be different. I bought a Turkish made riot gun called an Escort new for 185.00. It holds 8 rnds. and I have fired about 300 rnds. through it without a problem. It hangs over my bedroom door.

Guess I\'ll be different...

My HD gun is a 20\" Ithaca Mod 37 Featherweight. It\'s the smoothest pump action I\'ve ever shot, and currently the only shotgun I own.

Remington 1100, pistol grip stock, +3 mag extension, 6 shell side saddle, smooth bore slug barrel...loaded with 5 000 then 3 slugs, side saddle has 4 more 000 and 2 slugs. If you think your pump gun can't jam you've never been to a 3 gun match and seen someone short stroke their trombone? That is why there are "tactical" feed levers, so you can use a pocket knife and push the jammed shell back into the tube. In 20 years of competition and hunting this 1100 has never jammed on me.

I'm not much one for shotguns - my right thumb took a knife that was going somewhere else through the muscle into the hand once, and got nicks a few other times in my mis-spent youth. I can't reliably cycle a pump due to the injury, and automatics just don't give me enough ammo.

I have the ubiquitous Savage/Stevens 67A (the "Columbine model") 12g pump in the bathroom, sawed down to 18.25" on the barrel with a homemade pistol grip. It'll get me one shot before I drop it and pick up the other bathroom gun.

For room clearing, etc, I have the simple man's Thompson mini- a modern, functional Mac 10/45 clone with 30 round mags. It's smaller, lighter, and sweeps easily in confined spaces. For me, it's a better scattergun.

I just got a peek of a modded out Benelli M4 and I am thinking I am going to have to get one.

COMBAT MOSSY

I have an 18.5" Mossberg 500 w/ Ghost ring sites, and Vang Comp system
with porting. I use Federal 00 buck tactical, with some rifled slugs in
the side saddle.

With slugs, it will hit a man-size target out to 100 yds.

Hostage practice at 7yds...

Benelli M1 Super 90....I've had one for 15 years, and it has never given me a moment of grief (except for the time I decided to benchrest test some 3" slugs :1augen68: OWWW!)

I got a S&W 12 ga. 18" barrel and 7 shot mag. Added a heat shield, buttstock ammo holder and a sling. Got bored and painted it up following directions off AR15.com.

Scattergun of choice

I still have my old Winchester 1200. It originally had a 30" full choke barrel with rib. I got tired of looking for a short barrel so I sawed it off at 19", which was right in the middle of the post which held the rib. I bought a bead front sight and a drill and tap so I could mount it before I took it to a combat shoot in Arizona. Lo and Behold, the drill was too big, I was out of time, so I took it with no sight at all. The match was a 3 gun and I did alright busting styrofoam heads at ranges from 10 to 15 yards so never have put sights on it. It patterns 12 00 buckshot in about 15" at 30 yards. and hits 10" high at that distance sighting with the top of the rib. Suits me. I know it's considered a piece of junk but it has only failed to feed one time, and my buddies 870 did the exact same thing at the same match. It holds 8 rounds with extended tube and has a sidesaddle carrier with 4 rnds of 00 and 2 slugs. I keep it near my bed and pray that if someone breaks in he is not standing in front of my television.

My Favorite "12"

My all time favorite workhorse 12 gauge is an Ithaca Model 37 with the special shorter Police & Riot Barrel.
Mine is an older one (pre~disconnect) & so you can just keep the trigger pulled & it rapid fires with every forward pump motion. Neat. I love it.

Currently a Rem 870 police with tac-star extension. I used to have a Ithaca police, but the safety was so large my left-handedness would put the gun on-safe when I went to shoot about 25% of the time. Not good.

My fav is a Mossberg M590 with Ghost Ring Sights. Below is a pic of a target I shot at an NRA Law Enforcement Instructor Development Course. It is 8 slugs fired from 50 yards. Standing and kneeling. TAPS CCW can verify this target, he witnessed me shoot it.

How Many Rounds???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How About 4 Million?
As read in the Feb. 2005 issue of Field & Stream
A whopping 4 million rounds shot from the late shotgunning great Rudy Etchen's 870 Rem. shotgun ~ (with only minor parts replacement to keep it going)
Now that is a mighty durable scattergun!

I've got a Rossi Coach Gun with exposed hammers above my bedroom door, but for serious social work, I've got an original Benelli M121 with beautiful wooden furniture and a set of rifle sights with a semi ghost ring and a sling. The M121 is the precursor of the current Super-90. The barrel has been Pro-Ported. It has an extended tube which holds eight rounds and is simply the fastest, most reliable and softest kicking 12 ga I've ever fired.

My 870 - the choice for HD useage.

Old pic - it now wears a mag extension and sling is left off. Other shotties serve for trap and skeet etc. I keep full choke installed.

I use an Ithaca M37 Deerslayer Storm, the one shipped with the parkerized finish, polymer furniture, rifle sights, and a LimbSaver pad. It has a rifled barrel and is quite accurate with slugs intended for rifled barrels. It is uglier than sin, but it shoots.

Since I am left-eye dominant, the bottom loading and ejecting Ithaca M37 and Browning BPS are very easy to shoot. It did take some practice to be able to top off the Ithaca's tube while on the move; however, I have enough rounds downrange that I do it without thinking. Skeet with my 28-gauge BPS is a good training method for loading quickly and safely.
