If you're gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough!
Because my wife may be the one to use it, we opted for a 20 ga. Winchester riot gun loaded with 000 buck. She doesn't like a lot of recoil.
Mossberg 835 12g. I have a 500 12g Mossy en route. Hopefully an AR around X-mas.![]()

I currently only use a Rem 870 Wingmaster, circa 1956, set-up for HD duty. You can really tell the difference between the older 870s and the newer ones. And I live in an apartment so a rifle isn't a great idea for me.
But I will be buying my uncles Ruger Mini-14 for $300. Its a decent price and for a shtf rifle will serve just as well, accuracy wise, as an sks or ak. Plus I figure I can keep some of those 7 pocket banoliers around and have several hundred rounds ready to go on stripper clips. That way I wouldn't have to worry about springs wearing out and the Mini's are set up for stripper clips so I don't have to fool with the rocking mags.
The Mini will switch to truck gun when I can afford an M1A, I haven't decided which one I want yet.
Along with several shotguns,my ready and loaded(we have no kids) rifle is my Bushmaster Carbon15 Type 21. It has a very small Tru-Glo red dot sight on it and stands in the corner with a 20rd mag full of M855's and four more mags in a pouch right next to it.
Understand that I would always go to my shotgun first.
I also have a .454 Casull 16"SS that I use for hog hunting, and it will definately cycle 45LC's with 265gr CBP hardcasts or the 300gr. Hornady XTP's. --------
The rifle is a Mini-30, 6 20-round mags; shotgun is Winchester Defender. And an M-1 carbine and a Winchester 30-30. Did I leave out the HK G3? If they come up the stairs, they're mine!
Springfield SOCOM II, Stag m4gery, Browning 10ga NWTF and Mossberg 500....
the rest of my long guns are in the safe...

I keep a Remington 870 Express 12 gauge with extended magazine just under the bed and I keep the RRA M4 loaded with at least three 30 rnd magazines ready to go for my wife to back me up.

Browning lever action in .308, but the 870 will be first choice.

I have a Winchester 1300 "tactical" type shotgun behind my beadroom door and a AK clone in my closet for more serious social work.
My shottie is my rifle and will be for a while.... I have too many other "toys" on the list before I build my AR-15.
