What is your Home Defense Rifle?

What rifle do you keep around for home defense?

I personally have a 18'' Winchester Ranger 94 in .44 Mag in one room, and an RRA Entry Tactical AR-15 Carbine with Pentagon Light weaponlight.

I really like the levergun in pistol calibers for HD, although it doesnt seem there are many being used for this purpose anymore.

My home defense rifle is a shotgun *wink*

I never saw the need to keep a rifle ready to go in the house, I don't see a situation where I put down the 12 gauge pump - espically at night.

That said, if I was going to have a rifle ready if would be my lever action winchester 30-30. Reliable, nice short barrel, nice round.

I like rifles over shotguns for my situation , and since i am frugal ( not cheap ... frugal ) I have sks rifles with the standard mag loaded bolt down on empty chamber stashed in multiple rooms . The rifle by my bed is a STG58 FAL with a Browning auto 5 cut down to 20" and invector chokes installed for momma to back me up . I should note that other than my grandsons visits we dont have small children around , and NO ONE who does not live with me gets to private areas of the house at all .

I forgot to mention my SKS's, but theyre more of range guns than anything else anymore, but they are very good rifles.

I too have a shotgun in the house, but out where I live, If a round goes through the wall, theres not another house for a mile or so, and a barn. That and I like to keep the rifles around for the occasional unlucky varmit.

Mosin M44. Hey, if the 203-grain 7.62 X 54 soft-point doesn't kill the BG, the muzzle flash will probably blind him and the report will probably cause him permanent auditory damage. Then he has to deal with ME and the bayonet as well as ME and the steel butt plate.

I also keep a couple of shotties at the ready, loaded with Hornady TAP 00 buckshot and Federal Tactical slugs...they're more likely to be called into play.

But if I know threat is a rifle kind of threat, the old Mosin is where I'm going....

    Mosin M44.
LOL i have two of them , one is up getting " scouted out " ( a smith owes me some $$ and i cant thread the barrell on my lathe ) the rest of the work i will do lol . Great shooters but i am an idiot to make a project rifle out of one since i will have 3 times what i paid for it in the scope alone LOL .

Mosin M44 Ive got several mosins laying around here...and they really are blinding at night...it is almost ridiculous. The diff. between the 91/30 and the 44 at night is obscene.

I guess the AK is about it tho the 870 is also in the mix.

I too easily consider a pistol cal like my Win 94 in .357 tho that is mostly in the safe.

    Leadslinger,
Ive Been thinking about geting a Puma .454, for hog hunting. Does it cycle .45long ammo, or do you have too feed them through the chamber?

I have a 12 Ga Pump. Considering buying my own rifle for Deer hunting in AL or GA instead of using my fathers 30-06. Considering a .243 (thats what he uses) but this is all future. for now my home "rifle" is the 12g pump with 00buck

I haven't tried the .45 colts yet , I thought about that too.

I'll try it and get back to ya.

9 shot .454 would be some powerful hog medicine though.
