    Just got my first shotgun!

So, I decided it was time to get a shotgun for home defense as well as some clay shooting. I decided to settle on a used Remington 870 Wingmaster in 12 gauge with a 26" barrel.

It cost me $330 and appears to be well taken care of. The finish is just fine with no visible scratches or dents in the wood and only a few very minor scratches here and there in the metal. I'll be taking this thing out to shoot very soon to be certain, and if any problems arise (which I hope none does given the gun store I bought it at is quite reputable where I live), I can take it back to the store to have their gunsmith look at it for free.

This is my first shotgun, and after hearing rave reviews about the Remington 870 Wingmaster, I decided to get one for myself!

870s in general have a good rep. It should turn out well for you, don't forget to take the camera to the range.

Modified choke or screw in chokes? The Wingmasters are so much prettier than the 870 Express shotguns.

Get it to an outdoor range and have some fun with it...get to know what it can do.

I was considering an 870 as my HD-er, but ended up getting a Moss 590 SP. I've shot it several times with 2 3/4 shells, including at an outdoor range. Let me just say, that this is not the type of long gun that I will be shootin' lots of boxes of shells with. Mine only has a bead sight on it and I can easily hit paper at 50 yds and in using factory slugs and 2 shot, but the darn thing kicks like a mule, and I had a week long bruise on my bicep and a sore jaw to prove it. After shooting about 20 to 25 shells, I was done. That's not to say that I won't ever shoot it again, I definitely will. But now that I know how it feels and handles, I'll probably limit my range sessions to 10-15 shells/session. Anyway, I put a small LED tact light on it which I take off when I take it to the range.

If you've got a week-long bruise on your bicep and a sore jaw, you're not holding it right. The bruise oughtta be on your shoulder, and your jaw should not be involved!
