    AR15/M16 Gas Chamber Cleaning

What is the best way to clean the gas chamber (if needed) on these rifles. I was cleaning my Colt full size today and was wondering. I used gun scrubber by sticking the supplied straw into the metal tube and shooting some scrbber in there and then let it drain out of the barrel. Also using a bore snake has made cleaning these rifles much easier and quicker.

I have a Colt full size AR and a Oly M4.

    Thanks

According to the design of the rifle, the gas tube (im assuming that is what you mean by chamber) will never need to be cleaned, unless you have a .22 LR conversion installed. The gas pressure itself is sufficient to keep the gas tube clear of any signifigant buildup using standard .223 ammo. .22 LR ammo however, does not have sufficient pressure to blow debris from the chamber.

Bore scrubber or another liquid gun cleaner is a good way to keep it clean if you feel you must. I personally use Powder Blast for my gas tubes, and leave it at that.

I feel that all those speciality long Q-tips and pipe cleaners are just expensive and unnecessary, and a problem waiting to happen.

    A pipe cleaner works great.
