Saigas are good guns, but they are great with the short barrels. That one is a 12".

Be sure to post pics when you are done.

I did a Saiga conversion project over the Christmas holiday last year myself. Its fun and rewarding, and relatively easy project. Post photos when you have them. Good luck on the build.

Tromix does awesome work. The trick is getting in on one. He only does 50 builds a month.

I have refined my choices a little more. Let me know what you guys think. Ak stlye solid stock, tapco saw grip, billet tri rail, some kind of light with a remote pressure switch, vertical foreend grip, 12rd mag(s), autoplug gas plug. all together should only be about $300

And after watching CCS website videos on doing the conversion i feel pretty safe doing it all my self

Sounds good. The only problem is...flashlights dont last long on Saiga's due to the recoil.

I take this to mean that Saiga 12s recoil more than other similar (semi-auto) shotguns? Even a TLR-1 won't last?

I dont think that the Saigas recoil more than other shotguns, I think the manner in which they are used may be part of the problem. Usually everyone shoots them until the magazine is empty so the gun never stops moving until the reload.

I've known of several failures of flashlights, mostly the bulb be broken. The problem is really noticable on the short barrelled stuff.

For a home defense gun that gets shot very little,it might not be an issue.

Most people dont get Saigas for home defense. They get them so that they can shoot the heck out of them.

Thanks for clarifying Hot Guns. I hadn't thought of it that way.
I know my Saiga .410 has very little recoil and my incandescent G2 does just fine on it. I don't have another .410 to compare to though. The way I read it I thought you meant they (Saigas) had a harder recoil that other shotties.

Yes your right I've broke a light on mine. I figured they would get battered so I dont spend a lot for flashlights.
But will say this is by far the funnest shotgun for me to shoot.
And again your right. I never intended this gun to be for home defense, but knowing myself if it came down to it, I think I might grab this gun on reflex alone.
