    Good Marine Shotgun

I'm thinking about purchasing a shotgun for my boat. Does anyone have any input regarding such a purchase? In my research the frontrunner seems to be the Mossberg 500 mariner. However, I have never owned a Mossberg nor do I really know anyone that has owned one.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

The Mossberg Mariner is as solid as a brick, and designed for use on the water. Im not a huge fan of the Mossberg line, and yet I have alot of respect for the 500 series, as they have an excellent reputation as HD and special purpose shotguns. I know of several individuals who have the 500 Mariner, and they are very pleased with the product. It is a high quality shotty for the water.

If I wanted one for the boat, it would be my pick.

The Mariner has a good rep among the cruising crowd. It can also be purchased with a line thrower as a package. For those of us who cruise abroad some customs agents in other places have been known to consider these setups as safety equipment and leave them aboard while in country.

Be sure to check local laws regarding firearms on area lakes, etc....

I've had one of those Mossies and it was the real deal.

Winchester makes one and so does Remington. They are probably a little higher quality- all stainless steel, I think, as opposed to the Mossy being coated with something and having some plastic parts.

But I think that Mossy will do you just fine, especially considering the price differential. I got rid of the Mossberg Marine 500, but I have another 500 and an 835.

Mossbergs are solid, versatile, inexpensive weapons.
