I want one.
Very nice indeed. :hand10:
First, congratulations on E-7. You can't make E-8 if you don't make E-7!
Second, I'm more than a little ignorant on rifles such as these, but I really like the looks of this. Can you help me understand the specifics of make/model? I understand what you're saying about the sights, but am a little confused -- mainly because I don't really have any knowledge base for rifles -- on the basics here. Is this an M14? If so, what does SOCOM have to do with that?
Thanks, I appreciate your patience.
Congrats on the E-7! Nice rifle too.
The specifics are:
Springfield Armory "SOCOM 16"
Yes, it is an M14, just a shorter version (16" BBL). As far as the 'SOCOM' name, I think it is just marketing honestly. I have no idea if any special operations units have ever used anything similar. Frankly, it dosent matter to me.
This version, having the shorter barrel, is somewhat 'handier' than a full length gun, and it comes with the foward mounted rail that you see. Alot of folks will stick a long eye-relief scope on that rail, and use it thusly. I rarely ever shoot past 100-150 yards myself, and would rather have a 'quicker' sight, which is why I went with the red dot.
Thanks Tim, I appreciate that info.
My niece's husband is stationed in England and has stated he wants a .308 when he gets back on this side of the pond, so when you noted .308 my ears perked up.
Great job on E-7, and that is the next rifle I want. Good pick up.
Just what everyone needs for making E-7! My son took me to the range to show off his new M1A. I showed him how to shoot it. He hasn't let me shoot it siince.
