    My new Boomstick!

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to show off my new rifle. Sort of an "I love me" present for passing my test for E-7.

I have been lusting for a .308 for a while, and was finally able to scrape together enough for a short M14. The SOCOM is sort of a heavy rifle as it is, but I wanted to add a red dot sight to be able to get on target quicker. I have seen people mount Eotechs and Aimpoints on these, but it is already slightly muzzle heavy, so I didn't want a bunch of extra weight on that end.

I found this Mini Red Dot made by Pride Fowler which is really light. It is in a waterproof aluminum housing, and has a 3 position switch for 'auto'/'on'/'off'. Auto will automatically adjust the brightness of the reticle depending on the ambient light of whatever it is pointed at. 'On' is the full bright setting.

I still wanted the option to switch to irons if needed, so I paired the MRD with this quick-disconnect mount from Larue (LT624) which also surrounds the sight with an aluminum housing like a mini-Eotech.

This setup weighs in at 3 oz. Since I removed the steel stripper clip guide that weighs 1.2 oz. (Wont be using it anyway) I get a red dot setup and only added 2 oz to the rifle overall.

    Here she is....

Well, boom is right! That's something more substantial than .223 and is most admirable.

It'd be fun to spend an afternoon with a SOCOM. I have a standard M1A. I'll bet the SOCOM is a "different breed of cat" to shoot. It's got it were it counts down range for sure though.

That is one good looking rifle!

I have a touch of the M14 bug myself. Been looking at a few locally and I may have to add one to the collection one of these days.

That is a fine looking "boom stick"! I am lusting after a .308 as well. have heard great things, readily available, and quite effective. Lots of great rifles made in that caliber for obvious reasons. Enjoy it! Thx for the pics!

Thats awesome!!!! I have both a full size M1A and a Scout. This is the only SOCOM I like I can't stand the SOCOM II they are way to heavy.

I am a pistol guy, but that is on the short list of long guns I really want. Congrats on the test and the new weapon!

Congratulations on both, that thing sure is pretty!
