Nice. Seems simple enough. I think I will buy a palmetto lower to make a 16", and a BCM for an SBR. Now to figure out if my local LEO will sign off, or if I have to figure out how to do a trust.

By the way you should consider stickying this thread. Will get a lot of attention over the next 8 months.

If you'll wait a month or two, Palmetto puts their recievers on sale for 49 bucks. I've bought 10 of them so far.

I will have to do that. I imagine they are just as good as anything else. Probably the same as BCM if I put a good parts kit in and stake the castle nut.

HK hook - Blue Force Gear® StoreYou know, with your MOE stock, you can just feed the sling through it and use a QD up front or a quick release buckle near the stock, like the one that comes with the VCAS, though I remove those and use a QD on the front and rear, personally. I used to feed it through when I was running a first gen SOPMOD.

With this set up, I was using the Magpul hardware up front since that's how I was attaching my MS2 when using it as a 2 point. I'm back to QD now.

Okay, makes sense, thanks. I just wasn't sure what the best hook-up for that is. I actually like the ASAP plate, and have no plans of swapping it anytime soon.

Remember that using the end plate and using the stock give you a different feel. I like the end plate but with the way I shoot, the sling interferes with my cheek weld, so I connect to the stock and loosen it until I sling it.

Connecting near the barrel nut and to the end plate will be more maneuverable but also less stable when slung. Connecting to the stock will be more stable and have less movement when slung, but you'll need to loosen the sling for a high ready, high port and mag changes/working malfunctions if you do that muzzle up.

That seems backwards to me; I don't think I'd want the headache of explaining to the Feds why my SBR is not in my possession or how it got lost in the mail or why I need a new one because the engraver screwed up the first one... But that's just me I guess.

At the risk of a slight thread drift, I have decided that the reason I won a stripped lower at the FNH 3-Gun last year was clearly that I need to build myself a suppressed 9mm SBR. (Not much reason other than, "Because I can"—on the other hand, my local range only allows pistol calibers on the action range, so that's part of it.)

Any suggestions from the peanut gallery (jonconsiglio, I am looking conspicuously in your direction ) as to (1) what's a good length for a 9mm SBR, and (2) what's a good place to buy said upper when I get the ATF forms for the lower all sorted out?

    Thanks!

I have to run to get my kid, but here's where I'd start. This is 16", though I'd go with something in the 10" range. I'll post some links when I get back within the hour.

Did you ever state what parts you are using?

I saw a list of manufacturers but no particulars. Curious to see who's lower and parts you are using. As well as the rest too.

I'm waiting to list that as the build begins. I'm planning on doing to step by step "blog" if you will. So, I'm avoiding redundancy in posting the boring details right now.

Did I mention I hate waiting?

I hate waiting too. Ordered a BCM from G&R tactical this week. The hand guards are out of stock until next week.

I am looking at red dots now. Was thinking about a vortex sparc, or eotech.

Got a little time to figure it out.

I just picked up a Colt 6720 out of boredom. I hate waiting for stuff too.

Talk about waiting...its only going to get worse.

I got two stamps back today....right at 7 months.

There are now 7 AFT agents doing 24,000+ applications. There were 10, 3 of them quit and they have a hiring freeze going so they wont even replace the 3.

I'm getting reports of others taking 9,10 and 11 months for approvals. Its not unusual for the ATF to cash your check within a couple of weeks and then take 6 months to send your application.

A private industry couldnt operate like that and last for any amount of time, but its typical for big government. In a day and age when one could get a NICS check done in about 2 minutes, a credit card no. given on line to pay for it one ought to be able to buy it, pay for it and walk out the door all within minutes, but NO, that makes too much sense.

Instead, the ATF is stuck back in the days of no internet and remains one of the most inefficient organizations the goverment has to offer.
