Add me to the AR15 club.

Just ordered a Bushmaster 223 Patrolman, should have it in my hands next week.

Gun had everything I wanted to start out with:
    6 position stock
    Removable handle
    Dust cover
    Charge assist
    16" barrel

Bonus was the case and a 30 round magazine...

    Let the fun begin.

Start stocking up on ammo. Enjoy.

I would do a few things to that rifle for peace of mind.

    1. Properly torque and stake the castle nut on the stock. Cost: Free
This is something you should check immediately.

    2. Replace the bolt with a BCM full auto bolt and use the stock bolt as a spare Cost: about 140 bucks
( or at the very least properly stake it and replace the extractor spring)

    3. If you start having feed issues with certain ammo, get an H buffer and carbine spring

    4. Note the front sight base height and if too short, get one that is .40" taller to work properly with BUIS

If you plan to shoot it a lot, I would definitely do the above, if you are recreational shooting, at the very least stake the BCG gas key bolts and torque and stake the rear castle nut.

I give you this advice based upon THIS coming factory from Bushmaster: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=13532

    Enjoy!

    Nice.

What kind of optic are you going to roll with, or are you just gonna put a rear sight on it and call it good?

I'm kind of an iron sights guy myself, but who knows what the future has in store. :-)

Stock up an magazines, as well. Don't fall in love with them - ultimately, they're expendable. Keep in mind that most 30-rounders won't seat on a closed bolt unless downloaded to 28 rounds.
Run the bolt on the 'wet' side with lube. "White glove" cleanliness is neither necessary nor desirable with the AR.

Almost forgot: shoot the heck outta it! Great guns and loads of fun.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm definitely on the uneducated side when it comes to AR's and rifles in general, prior to this my only rifle has been a 10/22.

Glad to hear the Bushmaster was a good choice, there's a bazillion options out there!

In addition to azchevy's post, here's another great link that goes hand in hand with Grant's BUshmaster LE distributor thread - http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7376

Follow the advice here and you'll be good to go, which you may be already. Those two threads should be stickies here as a couple of us are often linking to it. This is the second time this morning I've linked it on this subforum, it has a lot of great info from some really tuned in guys.

Welcome to the club, buddy. Have fun and I hope it brings you a lot of joy!
