    Brought home a new rifle

I posted earlier concerning a Ruger tactical rifle and although it looked nice online, the dealer I went to did not have one. I looked at a M&P 15 and then the guy brought this over to me, a Colt M4 OPS which I liked as much but a bit more than the M&P, so I brought it home. Here is a link to the website: Colt M4 Ops | .22 Tactical Rimfire Long Rifle | Legendary Colt M4 with an AR Style Look

I was going to shoot it today but I decided to wait until Monday while my son is at school so I will have more time plus I will have my other firearms and ammo with me to make it a good day at the range. Note, this is only a .22 but I was not looking for anything bigger. Budget wise, unless I can find stuff cheap I do not have any intention of modding it other than maybe a red-dot or something. My primary use for this will be fun at the range, I live in the city so no varmet hunting and not really thinking an M4 .22 will make a good home defense weapon, correct me if I am wrong.

After trade I got it for right at $329

But, but did you get a 'kitchen pass' from the wife first?

My wife is starting to call my AMEX Card the 'ATF Card' because all I buy are ATF related items with it!

Congrats, make room in your safe!

LOL. She left me for a guy eight years older than me, I am guessing he will need a blue pill soon. I was left with the house, the car, one of the three kids and all of the bills in the marriage. three out of four is not bad, she could have taken the bills.

Anyways, I just round out I should have gotten the cheaper M&P, looks like this may not be as open to custom items if I were to go down that road, oh well.

The M&P was the superior choice.

Im not going to dwell on it, it should serve my purpose which is just to have fun. I cannot afford to shoot a lot of handgun ammo and I like to go to the range when I am stressed, it makes me feel all better putting holes in paper.

Good choice, you won't be disappointed! I have this rifle and it's a fun little gun to shoot. I would suggest buying decent quality ammo for it as it gums up pretty quickly with something like remington golden bullets. Congrats on the new purchase!

What ammo is good for the .22? I its been years since I had one. The shop sold me some CCI minimags, said to run them for the first 1000 rounds to break it in.

Also, anyone have a suggestion for a red-dot scope or other optiics/addons? I am told I need a riser for any optics since the front sight does not come off.

The Colt M4 OPS is a great .22 "AR". My son has several thousand rounds through his and no issues yet. We have the the PA M4 clone on his (Thanks ROLLO!). It has a built in riser and didn't break the bank. I would say that any of The Primary Arms RDS' are a safe bet for the .22s

I really didn't like the fact that the MP15/22 has polymer receivers, even though it does more closely mirror the AR style than the Colt(Umarex) offerings. The Umarex mags are a bit more expensive than the M&P though.

As far as ammo goes, I haven't noticed that any of the bulk pack cheapo .22lr have any real issues. The occasional dud but no weapon malfs caused by the ammo.

What is the "Primary Arms RDS"? Sorry, this is a new language to me. Going to shoot it tomorrow at the range, bought close to 1000 rounds of ammo for it.

PA, Primary Arms is a "tactical" accessories web site. You can get everything from them except your lower receiver if you want.

The PA, RDS is a Red Dot Sight of Primary Arms' store brand. They are also Aimpoint, Eotech, Vortex, Burris and Bushnel dealers.

It looks like the M4 copy that I have is not available any more but they have several affordable RDS' in their lineup that would work well for any .22 AR style rifle.

I am currently running one of their 3x magnifiers behind an Aimpoint Comp M3. The magnifier is well worth the purchase price and has proven durable enough that I am not killing my self to save for the Aimpoint 3x. I will eventually get the AP 3x and transfer the PA to my son's rifle but it is not a high priority right now.

Look around the forums for people selling theirs. Quite a few picked these up as starter optics and since upgraded to Aimpoint or Eotech.

Also checkout MilitaryArms (a member here) channel on Youtube. He has reviewed a few low and mid priced "tactical" optics. I can't think of the brand name right now but IRCC one stood out as an excellent value and was durable enough for any but the most rugged use most civilians will subject their rifles to.

i know on my specific firearm the front sight does not come off, well I found it can be removed but it voids the warranty. I am guessing I will need a riser of some sort to get what ever optics I get over the front sight, and ideas?
