Well, I shot a shotty for the first time in many years today. I recently acquired a 590 and took it to the range and ran 10 2.75" slugs and 10 3.00" 00buckshot thru it. The slugs were a piece of cake, but dang the 00 buckshot packed a wallop. Gotta find some 2.75" buckshot! At 50 yards the Mossberg was quite accurate with the slugs.

Tactical 00 buckshot really cuts down the recoil.
Buckshot and slugs aren't for fun. They're for crushing home invaders. The recoil won't bother you at 0300 in the morning.
I like full power 2 3/4 inch 00 buck for HD. Get a brand that your gun shoots well and wait till it goes on sale. Then stock it deep.

Yep - skip the 3-inch buck. Get some LE "reduced recoil" rounds and become proficient with them.

+1. Try reduced recoil buck. My Mossberg patterns best with Federal LE, but Winchester, Remington and others also have LE reduced recoil buck. If that alone does not do the trick for you, look into a recoil reducing stock like the Knoxx (now Blackhawk) product. I have one on my shotty and like it, others complain that they can't get a good cheek weld with it and do not like it.
