Finally got a Mosin Nagant
After reading everything you guys have posted about Mosin Nagant rifles for the past year, I finally picked one up. The LGS had several still in cosmoline for 109.00 plus tax. Added 2 boxes of steel case ammo and left with a new gun and a 150.00 hole in my pocket. Spent last night taking it apart and cleaning. Very happy with the outcome. I think it is a Izhevsk made in 1943. Came with bayonnet, ammo pouch, tools, oil can, and sling. All numbers match too. Can't wait to go to the range to shoot it. Got some Tannerite targets for Father's Day. Might just have to try them out with it. While getting in the safe to get it out for pictures, I thought of something.
I have a ChiCom Mak 90, a Russian SKS, and now the Mosin. Since these are all socialist manufactured guns, do you think the current socialist administration will allow me to keep them after SHTF ? Most of the ammo I have for these is also from socialist countries. I should be able to keep all of it. After all it came from his chosen political ideology. Guess I shouldn't count on that!! LOL
Is there a link or site for Mosin? I have read the blogs and posts on several other sites besides DC, but wondered if there was an "official" site. I would like to know a little more of the history and what all the proof marks and other stamps mean.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I've never seen an "official" M-N site, but there is oodles of info out there, such as proof mark ID, production history, and lots more.
Be sure you scrub that bore and get all the cosmolene out before you shoot it! Also, assume that your milsurp ammo has corrosive primers, so after you finish shooting squirt some Windex down your bore and patch it out to neutralize the corrosive salts, then clean the bore as you normally would.

I think its 762x54r.net or something, they have a breakdown for everything there, I mean everthing. You can take your ammo and your rifle and check the flight path. Pretty cool forum too.

I've really been thinking about picking up one or two of these soon. I was thinking I would like to finish one in usual stain color and want to try one with a dark black ebony stain. Would be a fun enjoyable project to clean up and refinish the stocks for me and my son. I saw 7.62x54R | SGAmmo.com has some good deals on surplus ammo for them even some with stripper clips. Acouple hundred bucks for a good gun and bulk ammo...you can't go wrong with that.

This is a great site: Main Page - Russian Mosin Nagant Forum
And this is a great forum:The Russian Mosin Nagant Forum • Index page . The folks on the forum are very helpful but you better post pics!
Got a 1938 Izhevsk built unit that shoots fantastic. Be sure to check the headspace prior to shooting it.
