Traveling NC to Upstate NY with shotgun?
I know this question has probably been posted a million times but since
bringing a handgun for this trip is out of the question.
Would I be OK traveling North with an unloaded Shotgun in vehicle?
Took a long look at the NY laws and they are vague at best for long guns.
I am staying in NY (not NYC) for 2 days so its not passing through.
Anyone else been in this predicament?
I am not comfortable traveling at night with the family unarmed.
Thanks
NYS Long Gun Law From The NRA Site
Hi,
I'm not a lawyer and I don't guarantee the accuracy of this info. This may be of help.

As you probably know, handguns are a major problem in NYS. Even if your handgun is trigger locked, case locked, ammo case locked and separate, and trunk locked, NYS law presumes that you are in possession of an illegal handgun--a felony. Ammo in the vicinity can make you presumptively guilty of being in possession of a loaded handgun.
Frankly, I avoid NYS and NJ when traveling with any firearm.
I know that this thread refers to long guns, but given the laws in NYS and NJ, I believe that thehandgun laws should be publicized as much as possible.
