I've got a Mossy 500 with pistol grip. GREAT HD gun.
If you're on a tight budget, you might look at an H&R Pardner Pump. It's an 870 clone - very well made. You can sometimes find one on sale for about $199.
Mossberg 500 with 18.5 inch open choke barrel.
We're not talking"tactical" or even "tacticool." We're talking about wall paper.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
The handle on this one is a little different...is it practical? or will it be a pain to grab or hold right? I am liking this 535ATI but I am not sure about the thumbhole style.
I like the Mossberg 590A1, but any Mossberg or Remington pump will do. I'd stay away from anything that doesn't have a Monte Carlo stock. The shoulder stocks with pistol grips look cool, but they don't point as naturally for me. I also prefer a single bead sight. No ghost rings or rifle sights. 18.5" barrel is the right size for most HD scenarios. Too long, and it's unwieldy. Too short, and you'll need a tax stamp. As always, YMMV.
Whatever doesn't kill you postpones the inevitable.
Don't do things you don't want to explain to the Paramedics!
Stupidity should be painful.
I just picked up a Winchester SXP Defender, the action on this gun is so much smoother than my Mossburg 500 that there is no comparision.
The best? 870p. Next best? Mossberg 590. On a tight budget? The 870 express or Mossberg 500 can be adequate.

I really like the FN SLP. It is kinda pricy at about $1000, but I think for what you get that is a fair price. I am pretty much in love with the 22 inch standard stock one. Never really cared for a pistol grip on a shottie.
