I have a question, I tried to shoot a beaver that was inside its hole with my ar 15 and when the barrel was inside the hole it would not cycle. When I took it out of the hole it cycled perfect, I tried shooting in the hole about 10 times and same problem. It was not ejecting the spent case. The gun is custom build with an osprey piston kit. It has never had any other problems. Just want to know why it does not work inside a hole in the ground? Thanks.

I don't think so as the gas pressure utilized to operate the action is aquired before the bullet leaves the barrel. But if so, that points out a serious deficiency in the design.
The attempt was probably in vain though, as few animal dens have straight entrances.

It's been a while since I've hunted "beaver" don't ever remember needing an AR for it though.
Is shooting into a shallow hole in the ground a wise thing to do, especially with a high velocity rifle round?
Maybe you need a space AR, you know one that fires when held in all directions.
Was the gun in a vertical or horizontal position when you fired?
Have you tried shooting striaght down any other time?
