    The "Glock" of AR's

Hmmm... 'Kind of like asking what is the "Glock" of 1911's...

At the high-end, you generally get what you pay for. Perhaps the Colt LE6920? Palmetto State Armory also has a growing reputation for well-built & reliable entry-level AR's.

The Glock of ARs is the AK ....lol

Seriously, you want a reliable & tough AR, look for piston, not gas driven. HK416 comes to mind

Colt, Daniel Defense, Bravo Company. Colt LE6920's are affordable. They cost the same to 1-200 more than a hobby grade AR.

It's my very basic understanding that for the most part the Colt is looked at as the standard. That said, many companies meet the standard and I don't believe you would see any noticeable difference between them. A great comparison chart from m4carbine.net was linked in a sticky on here somewhere and it shows and explains the different specs and features.

I will be buying my first ar soon and have been looking at the Colt. It seems I can pick one up for around $1200.00 or less. I am trying to avoid buyers remorse if there is a better option. Reliability is my main concern.

Quite simply, the Colt 6920 is the epitome of the fighting gun AR. If you are looking for "the industry standard" AR then it is 100% Colt's 6920.

I don't think you can have "buyers remorse" with the AR platform. You can always change it up and/or build another one for different purpose.

I have several in different set ups:
1). Service rifle ( match legal for matches)
2). I call it the "Carbine" 16.5 inch barrel, Light and optic
adjustable stock, also has flip down front site in case the optic is removed.
3). Full blown "F" class heavy barrel. For distance matches, is very heavy and shot off a rest.
I have a couple more lowers ready for action but have not decided on what kind of upper I want, so they just sit in the cabinet ready for a project in the future.

LaRue Tactical OBR or just go for SCAR 16s if you don't want AR/AK variants
