    A gunsmith/armorer question

I have a Mossberg 500 12 gauge and when I load the magazine full, I can't get the final round to cycle when I run the pump. Any ideas?

By final round, do you mean the last round loaded, or the last round to be fired?

Are you saying that with a full magazine it doesn't cycle?

My guess is you need a new spring if it's the last round in the tube.

    Load one less round.

I would try a Wolff XP spring, possibly a new follower.

Remove the spring and follower from the magazine tube and clean & inspect them. Get a 10 gauge swab and clean out the magazine tube.
Here is a pretty good page showing dis-assembly without video. (pics only) will england :: mossberg 500 disassembly

It's with the last round in the magazine tube, and when I run the pump, it won't feed out of the magazine and load. It gets to the opening of the magazine but stays inside, flush with the magazine opening. I can't get it to pop out. There was a time when I could use my finger to push hard against the face of the brass and then pull my finger away and get it to "bounce" out of the tube, but it won't anymore.

Sounds like the mag spring to me. Any chance you're loading one too many rounds? You know, like it's made for 5 rounds of 3" but you're squeezing in 6 rounds of 2 3/4"? Not sure that's even a possibility, I'm not a shotgun guy!

Look for any burrs on what's holding the shell...a good polishing with dremmel and some rouge would probably fix that. Clean the tube. Any old caked grease/gunk in there? Might try stretching the spring a bit and putting it back in as well as different ammo...

They're all the same width so that's not it. Gotta be the spring as everybody's saying.

How many rounds does your Mossberg hold? 5, 7 or 9?

I would first clean the mag tube first and then test it, but you are probably going to need a new spring.
