Mossberg did come out with a pink gun not long ago. Academy was advertising it.

A youth model in 20 gauge from Mossberg or Remington should do the trick nicely. Also Winchester may have a youth model available. The 410 may be a bit light but the 20 will be appropriate.
If she's recoil sensitive, a semi-auto may be better. Remington 1100 in 20 ga was my first shotgun.

I'm going to do some looking around, taking all your comments into consideration, and see what I can come up with for her.
Try 20 ga with a recoil reducing stock. Has pistol grip incorporated, and it is adjustable to make for a shorter pull if needed.... Mine is a Remington 870 with a 5 shot magazine ....
My wife is 70 years old, 5'-4", and thinks one of these (Mossberg 20 ga Persuader) is just fine:

Mossberg Maverick Model 88. they are 100% reliable . The sell from 159-189 . They are about 38 inches end to end.
870,500 are all great shot guns but for a HD Shot gun they are way over priced.
You don't have to shoot high power shells.
I keep this Westernfield 550 12 gauge (a Montgomery Wards re-branded Mossberg 500) loaded with 2 inch 00 buck shot (6 pellets) for my daughter to use.

It will do fine for self defense up fairly close. Recoil is negligible.
