Never been there but I have been told Russia has some very long cold winters, wonder how long it took to build.

After seeing the link in the original post I was so inspired that I spent the whole afternoon out in the backyard trying to build an M1 out of a shovel.

The project was a bust. It wasn't so bad for a first effort but wasn't what I wanted. Here are a few photos of the results of the attempt before I set it out with the trash.

Despite a couple of attempts, I got the bore a bit too large and it wouldn't ever shoot more than twice at a time.

I tried to be careful but scratched it all up.

I managed to do a pretty good camo job on the stock though.

bmcgilvray, I'll have you know that my 10 year old fell on the floor laughing when I clicked on your "scratched it all up."

P.S. Your trash man is going to be pleased!

Truly, if it cracked up a 10-year-old, my evening is made.

The shovel AK is pretty amazing too though.

On the other hand it's apparent that an AK would come closer to being capable of being fabricated into a viable shovel than an AR would.
