Any idea how to make them eject with more force/better/farther?
I can tell you this -- there is something that's easily done that will probably fix it, but I don't know what it is. I was having the same problem with my 870 at the skeet range a couple of weekends ago and took it apart, confirmed things were working, re-assembled, and BAM same thing. So I took it to the shop and the smith fixed it so fast right there at the counter he didn't even charge me. He told what he did and it sounded like "Oh, here it is, the thingamawhatsit is disconjabulated." or words to that effect. I'd never heard the terms he was using but my point is, if you or somebody you know knows a lot about shotguns it shouldn't be hard to get it ejecting right. These guns have been around for decades and are tried and true but sometimes need a little tweaking,
Something was stuck and he unstuck it but it was nothing I noticed when I took it apart.
can you describe the problem with them ejecting?
If you work the pump harder does it eject better?

Lord, Grant me a good sword and no need to use it.
Yes. This usually happens when I'm shooting sporting clays (I know it's not the best gun for that). I need to eject cleanly and quickly to get the second shot off and it just ejects them so wimpy, like it just falls out the side--sometimes it comes half out and I need to quickly reach around and pull it clear to chamber the next shell. My friend is using a Benelli pump action and the thing flings the shells 10 feet, lol.
Is it clean?
I texted my son because he was there when I had mine looked at and he remembered the smith said something was "engaged" (stuck) and he freed it. May be different from your problem though because my gun wouldn't rack at all and I'm pretty strong. I had to reach in and remove the shell through the port.
Can you rack slowly and see if the extractor is grabbing the rim of the shells solidly?
