Depends on which rifle being discussed. We mostly depend on the following two rifles.

The M1 Carbine with it's sling and a loaded 15-round magazine weighs 6 lbs.

The Winchester Model 1907 with a loaded 10-round magazine weighs 9 lbs.

Is that your new M1A your referring to? If so, is that just the rifle? Or do you have anything else on it like a optic or a light?

Remington 700 BDL 30.06 weighs about 7.5 lbs. Mainly used for hunting but can be pressed into defensive use if need be...

I just got done weighing the AK I just finished and it weighs in at 10.28 pounds. That seems a bit chunky to me. Seeing you list a M1 at 6 makes me want to find a Kel tec sub 2k even more..

    Hi Rollo;

    Now that's an M1 Carbine...

    ...not an M1 rifle.

Weight with leather sling, cleaning kit, and 8-rounds in their enbloc clip runs 11 1/2 lbs.

Haven't weighed them - but my FAL is lighter than my AR.

I'd guess the AR is in the 10-11 pound range with a loaded mag. It feels sturdy - but I wouldn't want to patrol with it.

The FAL is probably 8 or 9 pounds loaded. It's very handy.

    Nude AR-15 about 6 ½ pounds.
    M1-Carbine about 6 pounds.
    M-1 Garand about 9 pounds.

    Galil 8.4 LBs Empty
w/ Magazine weight will vary depending or Steel or Orlite mags and 35 or 50 rnd capacity.
Note: The steel magazines are heavy gauge steel.
All steel scope mount adds another LB + Aimpoint.

So it is not a lightweight.

That's an estimation with 20 rounds in magazine, no optics.
I haven't got my greedy hands on it yet.

Most weigh 7 to 9 pounds, but I care less about the weight of each. I am more interested in reliability, accuracy, range, minimum maintenance requirements and soon to be ammo availability at an affordable price. I'll gladly pay the opportunity cost of weight for the reasons stated.
