Can any one recommend a rifled slug for a smoothbore 12 ga. maverick 88. I'm not looking to shot at anything past 50 yards. Just trying to get a concensus, thanks

Long time since I had or fired any slugs but I did use Brennike (spl) when I did and out to the 50 yard region were plenty accurate enough. I think they were one ounce.
Try too maybe - a web search on ''rifled slug'' and see what you can find.

I shoot rifled slugs through my winchester 1300 once in a while. I have nothing but a bead for sights and have been very supprised at how accurate they can be. I've shot mine from sandbags out to about 75yard and get groups in the 4inch range.
Forgot to mention I've shot both remington and winchester's basic 2 3/4'' rifled slugs depending on which one happens to be on sale at bass pro at the time. Both perform well for me. I stay away from the 3'' slugs. The recoil of the shorter ones is plenty stout for my taste.
I like Lightfield 2 3/4 Hybrid Sabots. 1 1/4 oz slugs. I shoot them from my 18.5" barrelled Mossy 500.
I have a Mossberg 500 and i get very good accuracy with Winchester slugs...23/4 inch Foster slugs.

You didn't state a purpose for the slugs.
I will second the Brennike; I lived in Indiana most my life and rifles are not legal for deer hunting so most people use shotguns and slugs. The Brennike are accurate and the design is devistating on deer sized animals.
I would use either the tried and tru Brennike or the newer Federal or winchester round with the polymer ball in the base of the slug, for just general hunting at 50 meters and under.
But if we are talking home defense or SD I would go with the Berk'
Like everything else buy abunch of different slugs and see what works best. My Rem 870 liked winchester slugs
I've seen some in one of Federal's catalog. They're called: PREMIUM VITAL-SHOK TRUBALL RIFLED SLUG. You can check them out on their website: http://www.federalcartridge.com/ They even come in a reduced recoil version. 12 and 20 gauge. Haven't heard much, but the little I did hear was positive.
Gun control is hitting what you aim at...
Also from Indiana: In my experience Brenneke will act as a semi-wadcutter on deer and Federal Foster will usually flatten in deer, giving you effective expansion.
Be aware that Remington used to use undersized slugs and there may still be batches out there. They earned a reputation in this area for extremely poor accuracy. The design has been improved but as I said, the manufacture date will determine what you get.
