Who cares? People who support a ban on any certain type of firearm no matter what they are called.

This goes back a few years (like 30), but a friend of mine was dating a Jewish girl for a while and it was time to meet the parents. My friend drove a Beetle back then (you can relate!). So on the given night he drives up to the girl's house, introductions were made, and the dad looks at the car, then looks at my friend, and says in a thick German accent, "Zo - you drive a Nazi car, eh?" Things didn't get any better after that!
The ultimate irony of the Volkswagen is that the idea was born of a person who was pure evil/hate/war incarnate became the pop culture icon of the hippy movement whose entire existence was centered around peace and love. That's poetic justice. Every time I drive my VW painted with Flowers and Peace signs all over it, I hope the evil creator of the idea is tormented in hell. VWs did not actually go into production outside of prototypes until after WWII ended. Part of the rebuilding effort.

I agree. I think we should call them "Shut your festering liberal mouth rifles".

I go with the military version, but I am not even a fan of that because if one does not assault with it it can not be an assault weapon. I have an assault hand, but you will only know which one if I am forced to use it!

Mil-Spec sporting rifle has a good ring to it.... I feel bad reading this as I have mistakenly taken on and used the term assult rifle in the past at times. I usually assume whats meant and agree it doesn't make sense. We used to call the M16A1 our battle rifle years ago... Evil is what those who wish to molest our sport make these terms... the terms don't do the damage - the person on the end of the trigger does. If we call them an "operator" does that make them less of a person or evil? I guess in todays society it would. we used to be called operators so what does that make me? Media and ignorance make a great stew for those who are hungry!

A genuine "assault rifle" in actual use. A M1884 "Trapdoor" Springfield. Just ask the Lakota Sioux at Wounded Knee South Dakota in December of 1890 if it isn't.

Apparently, according to the State of California, the California School System, and CBS, they are to be called AR-15 "Sport Utility Rifles."
