I am thinking of getting a lever in .357. Anyone have any thoughts regarding the Marlin vs the Henry? I know of course that the Henry is a lot more money, but is it worth it?

That's like superman versus the hulk...
Can't pick a winner.
Oops, i think i just let my inner nerd show.
:hand15:
...I've had the older Marlins...slick and smooth...but in recent years they've suffered some quality issues...Marlinowners Forum details many of them...if you can find an older one used, you'd not only save some $$ but probably have a better quality weapon than later models ...if you're buying new...the Henry's worth the difference...and the quality is there out of the box...
I have a Marlin 1894C .357 and a Henry lever .22 Magnum black with octagon barrel. The Henry is buttery smooth, but if I were going for a larger caliber I would opt for the Marlin.
I've heard that since they moved their factory and most of their ol'timer smiths didn't make the move, they were having issues with their new crews. Two of the LGStores by me stopped getting them in because of it. They haven't stocked any for the past 7-months.
good luck in finding one.
I like them both...tough choice.
My .22 mag is a Henry, and my 30-30 is a Marlin...both great gun makers.
I just started my homework looking at some lever .22's. I dont own a .22 (I know, right??) and want to pick one up. Obviously the Ruger 10/22 will be purchased, but thats a no brainer. I've heard much of the same about the Marlin's. They used to be untouchable, but quality has gone down. The Henry's seem to be around the same price, maybe a little less. What is everyone's thoughts on the finish. I like the blued look, but I see more of them with a gold or brass finish, and some with silver or chrome. I hope this thread takes off...I know almost nothing about lever guns.
Lever action guns are addicting... So far I only have two... a Savage 99 lever action 300 and Marlin .35Rem.
Speaking of the Savage... if you can find one, they are great guns as well. There are many out there and they are an awesome rifle. History of Model 99 Savage
Have you considered the Rossi Puma 1892 under the Braztech Rossi name? Great rifle with a loyal following and they can be found. I checked the Gander Mountain web site the other day for a friend and they say they have some 92s in stock. I have the 16" .357 in stainless and love it.
