    New Marlin 336

Not sure if this should have been in long guns or ammo. Went into the local wally world yesterday checking the ammo shelves usually empty but today they actually had 9 boxes of Federal 30/30 on the shelf nothing else. So I had to buy the 3 box limit. But since I did not have a rifle for 30/30 the Marlin in the case was calling to go home with the ammo. What can you do, hated to separate the group. Now I just need more 30/30 so i can go to the range and see how it shoots.

Congrats on the new addition. ;-)

Definitely looking forward to a follow-up on this post. We were talking about the Marlin 30-30 not long ago and there had been some complaints about the newer ones. I hope they have the bugs worked out and you don't have any trouble. Please let us know what you find out.

    Best of hope for you.

I have a Marlin 336 that was born in '72. She's a 35 Rem model and if it is anything like your 30/30... you are going to love it. I just took mine to the range two weeks ago... Wanted to see if the scope was still set... the range was only 50 yds but here is a group of five in the photos... That's a quarter over the 5 holes...

I just got a used one off of Gunbroker about 2 weeks or so ago. It's a 1976 model and is in great shape. I love it.

    Re: New Marlin 336

The old lever guns are great. We have had a few 336's over the years, and they are excellent rifles.

I'm currently on the lookout for a nice 44 mag lever gun to compliment my 44 mag revolver. Likewise, I think that a 44 mag carbine with proper load selection could be a wicked home defense gun. The trick would be finding a load that doesn't over penetrate, which might be a challenge.

I just purchased a 336 made in 1982, really like it. I'm going to purdchase a scope for it as my old eyes can no longer see the sites.

Found another Marlin today, it was the 1894 in 44mag but wasn't sure if they were asking to much for it.

I got mine from Bass Pro last year. Too good of a deal to pass up. I have not had any issues with mine. Fired everything I have fed it so far. Going to take it out as often as possible to run it through as much ammo as I can just to make sure. It can definitely be a defensive gun, and one of the reasons I looked into it, is that while just as potent, it doesn't look like one of those evil black rifles.

    WE NEED PICS!!!

    Here is mine.
