    Savage model 10 predator

OK, title says it all. You probably know I'm looking for this type of rifle. Your thoughts on the Savage model 10 please.

My goal with sticking with a .223/5.56 rifle is that I'm heavily stocked with ammo. During a crisis I don't want too many mouths to feed per say and this will be mostly for woodchucks anyhow. In a SHTF scenario it will eat the same thing my defensive rifles eat.

Barrel is a fluted 22 inch medium contour in a 1 in 9 twist. It has the accu stock and the accu trigger.

    Discuss.

I have both Savage and Rem 700. Savage over the Rem any day of the week. Accu trigger is nice if you like it. Savage long ago got over its quality issues. Savage for the buck is much better than Rem in todays market.

Shooting....I have a different model but it ou shoots the Rem..actually both, son has one.

    I am talking .308 thoug, not .223

You can't go wrong with a Savage rifle. They are extremely accurate, and I think you will love the accutrigger. I have a .223 target rifle that I built from a Stevens 200 action(same as Savage 10/110) and it is a tack driver. Adjust the accutrigger to your liking, add a good optic and you should be able to shoot sub MOA groups out of the box. I'm running a Nikon M-223 scope which is actually designed to be an AR scope, but I love it on the bolt gun. Take some time and develop a dope card for your loads and tape it to your stock. You shold have no trouble pushing that rig out to 600 yds. I've had good look with 69gr Sierra Match Kings and 75gr Hornady Amax out of my 1:9. savageshooters.com is a great resource on Savages if you want to go do some reading. Good luck!

For the money and what you want to do with it? You can't go wrong. Savage isnt getting enough attention these days and, I guess, for good reason. They did have some issues years ago but also built a lot of quality products as well. It's alot harder on a smaller company if your name isn't "Remington" and you build a turd. And they all build turds now and then. I bet you can do better than that $775. Personally, I hope they stay out of sight and out of mind lest they get to expensive to own!

If you have defensive rifles in .223, they all should be minute of woodchuck accurate to several hundred yds. I would just use those but if you really want one you cant beat savage. I have several, a .17hmr, a 64f 22 lr, and an 11/111 in .270. They are all great guns. you wont be dissappointed.

OK so Savage is the verdict. One more question please. How bout a price value comparison between the model 11 hunter and the 10 predator?

I have a Stevens 200 .223. It's basically a Savage with a bare bones synthetic stock and no accutrigger. The 1/9 twist will put 50 grain Nosler Ballistic tips in pretty little cloverleaf groups all day, every day. Wonderful little rifle for coyotes and jackrabbits.

I think that you're paying extra money in the Predator for a fluted barrel and camouflage. Personally, I'd rather have the cheaper version and put the extra money towards a nice scope. You can paint it if you want camo.

"You'll take your eye out, kid"................... just kidding. I love my, um former, before the boat accident, Savage rifles also. (Oh, I meant past tense = loved them before the water accident).

About 5 minutes ago I bought this one from Bud's.

Savage 11 TH XP 223 Lefthand NIKON $448.00 SHIPS FREE

I really wanted the 10 predator but I couldn't find one anywhere that I could put my hands on. I wanted to see if the heavy barrel would bother me. I was able to find the 11 TH XP at a local store and i thought it was just fine. It come with a Nikon scope for only $453 + 20 to my FFL. You can't beat it!
