    Ar-15 in 9mm

Anyone have one I'm picking up one to play around with it uses Glock Mag's

I know it doesn't have the power of a rifle cartridge but the glock mag is pretty handy i think

especially with the Glock 18 33 round mag's could be a Good SHTF gun to go with a glock

The make a 10mm version but to bad it doesn't use glock mag's but modified sten mag's which i have heard there are problems with

yeah I want one!!! I really like the fact that they take the 33 round glock mags....and while it doesn't have the power of a rifle cartridge, it has more power than a little 4" bbl that's for sure. I think they are great and would like to get a 9mm upper. Actually my dream gun is a suppressed 9mm upper on a full auto lower receiver....but that's quite a few years away for me!!!

Gotta take the opposite view here.

    I've played with a 9mm AR, and it's a lot of fun.

    But....

If you are talking SHTF, then it makes absolutely no sense to me to carry something with the bulk and weight of a rifle and yet still only get pistol caliber performance.

Pistols are pistols, and rifles are rifles.

Matt it will more likely just be to play with if SHTF i doubt im leaving no way i could take all my firepower with me so i think i would be better off at home

No sweat. As a range toy, I'd have to say it's a lot of fun.

For social purposes, I'd prefer the rifle chambering.

Just my $0.02 - I could be completely wrong.....

Bud, I am thinking of building my on AR and had considered a 9mm after having shot the Bushmaster 9mm Carbon 15. Do you know of a lower that can take both 5.56 and 9mm or is that just a pipe dream?

just about any lower can take a 9mm upper if you get a magwell block...I've heard that some of the colts with the sear block had a hard time running certain 9mm uppers but other than that you don't really need a dedicated lower...that's one of the many great things about the AR platform if you ask me

Do any of you have good sources for uppers I've checked out J&T and MA. I want a good one that's not very expensive. Any help would be great.

I think J&T is about as good as you can do for a new upper as far as price/quality goes....though there is also Model 1 Sales and they are known to be not very expensive...thought they aren't supposed to be really high quality either though so...M1S has them for 470 w/BCG. Not sure what J&T is selling them for.

having said all of that, I've never worked with either company, but I've heard more good things about J&T than I have about M1S

I'll check them out. I'll post pics of my rifle when i get it built in about 6-10 months. Does anyone know if you have to change buttstock assemblies when swicthing from 9mm to 5.56 uppers?

buttstock can stay the same...some people may change the buffer for certain setups...I don't really know enough about it to answer this one though
