    Ruger Mini Thirty question

    Hello all from sunny Kalifornia!

Question about the Ruger Mini Thirty.

I have an AK that didn't make it through our tuff Kalifornia AW ban/ registration proccess. Long story short, i have a bunch of 7.62 x 39 rounds left, and was debating on getting an SKS or Mini Thirty, neither of which i think compares to an AK, but my choices are limited here.

Does anyone have any input on the Mini Thirty?

    TIA!

Id get an sks since it's cheaper and a mini-30 can't do anything an sks can't do as well. Mini-30s and 14s are terribly inaccurate (mine would barely shoot about 6" groups at 100m). For what you get they are way overpriced too.

Considering that you Probably won't be using mags
over 10 rds. anyway , I would go with an SKS.

ACTUALLY - you could get TWO nice SKS's and a Case of Ammo
for the same $$ as a Mini 30.

I once had a Mini-30 and an SKS paratrooper. I sold the mini 30 and kept the SKS. In fact, I often think of getting an SKS full size. My Dad has one and I absolutly love every one I have ever shot. Way better than an AK too. IMO.

I didn't think you could have an sks in the peoples republic of Kalifornia

I *think* it has to be the kind thats limited to 10 rnds, but I might be wrong.

Seems like I'm the only one who likes his Mini-30. Mine is very sensitive to the type of ammo it uses, which has a direct impact on the accuracy. With a little experimentation, I have found it to be very reliable carbine.

Well, I have a mini-14 ranch rifle and it does its job good enough for me. My grandma owns a small horse ranch, under 50 acres, and when im doing work on it the ranch rifle is often with me, especially during hunting season. It doesnt have the accuracy of the AR at long ranges, but for under a hundred yards im a decent shot with it. Also it looks a lot less threatening to a passing motorist or what not than an AR or AK thrown over my shoulder if im spending the night on the ranch and need to investigate a noise or head down to the barn early to muck the stalls or whatever. For what it is, it gets the job done well. Never owned a mini-30 though, i suppose it would also do the job as well

I found a SS Mini 30 in Denver I thought about buying. Checked w/ Ruger Tech Service, they said Mini 30 would not tolerate Russian Tula, Wolf, or Bear Ammo because of the varnish and tight tolerances. A shame for sure, I have A LOT of Tula. Good thing is I have 3 SKS's and will stick w/ them.

IIRC, the very early Mini 30's had a .308 barrel and didn't group for anything. I've heard the later ones are better.

    I'd go SKS.

This thread is 6 1/2 years old. I'm pretty sure the OP worked it all out by now.
