Smile My first rifle was ...

Let's see where everyone's experience is coming from. Answer the questions:

    1. The first rifle I ever shot was ...
    2. The first rifle I ever owned was ...

... and then identify the make/model/caliber/year of that rifle, along with any other specifics you'd care to share, such as the story about your initial introduction to shooting them.

Photos would be wonderful, if you've got 'em. Pictures from that "fateful" day, showing you gettin' your training from your family members (father, aunts/uncles, enterprising friends down the street), whatever.

    * Note: Let's avoid the politics and debates, in this one. Let's make it a classic show-and-tell type thread. Let 'er rip.

I think the first rifle I ever shot was my dad's lever action .22LR, but I'm not entirely sure, not counting the first "rifle" he bought for me, which was a Daisy BB rifle.
The first rifle I owned, was a Marlin Model 25 .22LR with a leather military style two-point sling adjusted to use as a brace for the rifle when holding it. Later, I added a scope with a mount that allowed me to still use the iron sights below the scope. I still have all 3 of the above rifles, but no pictures handy. I'll have to snap a few shots of them tomorrow if I get time.

The very first rifle I shot was my grandfather's Winchester 1890 pump gun chambered in .22 Long. I had to browbeat my dad into taking it out to shoot, but we finally did. In subsequent years I spent most of my free time at Boy Scout summer camp at the rifle range, shooting their single-shot, peep-sighted Mossbergs until I was the camp champion 2 summers in a row.

The first rifle I owned for myself (I inherited the 1890) was a Ruger77/22 in .22 LR, which has been lightly customized. It's as accurate as it needs to be for all but competition purposes, with half-inch groups at 50 yards using economical American Eagle ammo.

Wish I had photos, but - nada.

Savage model 66, nylon .22. It still shoots straight with iron sights to this day.

That's if you don't count the Daisy air rifle.

First rifle shot: Can't quite recall, but I think it was a .22 lever-action at the cousins' farm, at age 7. (Learned the meaning of 10ga shotguns, that day, too, though that's another story.) Shot a variety through Boy Scouts, though I can't recall any of those, either.

First rifle owned: Savage 12FLV .223, less than 10yrs ago (waaaaay past 21 yrs of age).

    Have owned: 9mm carbine, .44mag and .357mag levers, 8mm Mauser, M1 Carbine, Rem 700, Savage 12, ...

I don't remember the first rifle I have ever shot. I was shooting as far back as I can remember.

The first long gun I owned was a H&R 20 gauge shotgun I got for my 7th birthday (IIRC).

The first rifle I owned was a marlin .22lr at around age 8 or so.

The first rifle I bought myself was a Remington 7600 in 30-06. I bought it at age 14 (at K Mart).
Two roads diverged in a wood, and Ió
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I had my crossman BB gun for as lokng as I can remember. Does that count?

If not I shot my uncle's .22 winchester, not sure of model. Also shot a lever action .357 rifle, again not sure of make or model. I liked guns before that, but having never shot a "real" one, fell instantly in love that day.

Winchester Model 92? in .44 magnum

Can't remember the first rifle I ever shot.

The first rifle I ever bought was a Winchester Model 92? lever action in .44 magnum. I used it to hunt deer in North Carolina and Virginia. One of my greatest regrets in life was to sell that rifle.

The first rifle I remember shooting was an M1 Carbine provided by Uncle Sam in 1964. The first rifle I ever owned was a M94 Winchester I received as a Christmas present along about 1970. I still remember it as a complete surprise and the best present I've ever received. It started me off down a path that has continued for my entire life.
