    3" 00 Buck + pistol grip... Ouch.

I finally brought my Maverick 88 to the range with the Hogue tamer pistol grip. Figured it would be fun to try. I popped a few 2 3/4" birdshot through it, and it had a heck of a kick. Not enough to hurt, but plenty to be fun and give that hand cannon sensation. So after about 10 of those, I popped in some 3" 00 buckshot.

    Bad idea.

Ended up firing 4 of them, and I just couldnt do anymore. My hand was red and throbbing, a few minutes later it was all shakey like it just got hit with a hammer, and not my palm is slightly bruised and my wrist is killing me. I can barely hold my phone and text with that hand, and cant even unscrew the top off of a bottle of water 2 days later.

Well, I learned my lesson. Was still fun, though... Just wont be doing it again with 3" shells.

    Anyone else ever do this?

...to me, a 20 makes sense for a pistol grip...not a 12...I want all the pain on the OTHER end...

Don't try a slug if the OO buckshot hurts that much.

Real world? None. Range use? What the heck, who cares where you (if at all) hit the target?

I stopped experimenting at 6 shot. Put the shoulder stock back on.

Put a pistol grip on the fore-end as well and use that grip help absorb the recoil. I shoot mine with my left arm fully extended to absorb recoil. Works for me.

I am sixty-seven and I shoot 3 1/2" #1 buckshot in my Benelli SuperNova Tactical. I wouldn't do that with just a pistol grip.

I also carry a pistol grip both fore and aft on my 870. 3" shells are no problem, but you do need to keep your trigger hand wrist held fairly firm. That gun will try to break a rubber wrist.

3" 12 Ga. shot from anything other than a gas operated, shoulder fired, gun is IMHO verging on masochism.

Work on your overall hand and grip strength.

I am up to the heaviest GRIP MASTER and I use it every other day.

Don't start out with the heavy one because you will cramp your fingers.

I shot slugs through a NFA 14" Remington with a birds head grip and didn't think it was that bad.
