Nice pictures and descriptions, Phil. Thanks! I have been contemplating a similar build on my MAK-90, so your posting is a nice roadmap.

I've replaced the furniture on my NHM-90, and it was pretty easy. It involved replacing the original thumbhole stock with a Dragunov style synthetic one, so the process was slightly more complicated because it effectively means replacing the grip at the same time as the stock. I definitely like the feel of the rifle much better with the new stock (it looks cooler too).

I recommend the Choate stocks for the MAK90 -- mine had a hard time accepting the First Samco furniture.

    Really Good Read

Changeing the furniture on an AK or SKS is not a difficult task. But if you never done it before this is great info. This is my AK that I changed over. With the adjustable stock and my short arms, I can get a much better grip.

Where's best to aquire the Choate stuff Phil? - ATI gear seems stocked everywhere but the Choate (which I prefer generally) is not seemingly so findable.

Ben - I just had to tinker That pic of yours was a large file and way too dark so - enhanced it and shrunk it too - now I can see the beast

Nice job - here is the improved pic.

Thanks Chris. It did not look too dark on the camera but on the post, dark rifle against dark background, it did not come out like I wanted it too.

Rock and Glock none of it is expensive. The AK is a Romanian WARS-10 that my brother-in-law got for me for less than $300. The furniture is made by TDI Arms or it might be TAI Arms. Its hard to tell since the letters are blending together. I forgot where I got the furniture or what I paid fot it but I'm sure I do not have more than $600 in the rifle.

    OOOOH Good looking...

I might have to invest in some nice plastic furniture.

    Thanks for the idea.

    A question...

How does Sec.922R fit into these mods?

I was looking at some furniture for my SKS, and kept seeing this note that Sec. 922R applies. I tried doing my own research and ended up even more confused. It seemed that if you changed one part, you had to change a total of ten parts (the actual number varies, depending on the original rifle) to make it considered "U.S. made."

    Any clarification is appreciated.

    Dave.
