Actually, they call it their "Ruler", but it's quite handy. You can scale in a full range of units, even "Smoots." The 'Path' feature also lets you calculate distance along a non-straight route.

No reason (IMHO) for golf GPS until your iron distances are consistent enough to matter. That takes practice-range time, rather than course-playing time. Ranges are marked for yardage so there's no real need for GPS. No personal offense intended, I just broil at molasses-slow golf played by folks who take six practice swings, stalk a putt from every possible angle, take a half-dozen Mulligans, and STILL CAN'T break 95 on a municipal track in 4.5 hours.

As Rodney Dangerfield would say, "Hey! (adjust collar) While we're young?"

In order to use a golf range finder successfully you need to hit the ball straight...... I never could.

Hint: If you use the Google Earth ruler to find the distance between two points, don't forget to factor the elevation changes in if you walk it.

I know the exact ranges to all significant terrain and structural features around my residence thanks to this map feature.

    Google Earth Range Finder

Who was talking about playing golf? I don't play, but I do use the rangefinder for shooting and to help me get better at range estimation.

My mistake. And, beyond this next tidbit, I'll stay on topic. Nothing I've done in my life has better equipped me to accurately estimate distances for shooting than...40 years of golf.

Cool I would play golf but I can't figure out how to get the stupid white ball of the stupid little stick and fly straight! I always manage to hit into the other fairway. I went to WV and played Golf I put a hole in some guys siding.

This is why I play Golf with a shotgun! its called Sporting clays!
