What are these things in my "new" SKS carton?

I just bought an "unissued" SKS as a backup SHTF weapon to my AK. Other than an ammo pouch and a carry strap (at least I think that's what is is) could anyone tell me what else came in the SKS box?

It looks like there is a string and an oil can here. (But I am guessing there isn't oil in it.) What are these things???

    THANKS!!

I never owned a SKS, but had a Romanian SAR-1. Im guessing that the liquid, string is a "cleaning kit". You tie the string around a patch, insert the other end of string through the chamber, then pull through barrel. Easier to use in the field than a rod.

    That explains the string! Thanks!

No, the bottle isn't green. It looks like brass. Well, there is a bit of green around the edges where it might be a bit corroded or something. (The gun looks perfect but this tin can doesn't look so good.)

It looks like a tiny canteen except it is about 2.25 in (guess) in diameter and has what looks like a little spout (but I don't see a hole in it) that unscrews off of it. I don't see a Chinese star anywhere.

I would have guessed it was an oiler except that it has a... distinct "odor". Actually it smells REALLY bad. I didn't know if it contained some type of cleaning solvent or what.

It makes sense it is an oiler. I just wouldn't have expected it to smell that bad.

    Thanks!!!

    ..a string..

Oh that's the part the BATFE thinks is a "machine gun" better get a stamp for that... lol

I'm joking, but at the same time not joking, the BATFE did get someone on charges for using a shoelace to fire a rifle... must have been a slow day at the office...

    Was this a Yugo SKS?

    Maybe it's a Chinese C-ration.

I have an SKS and it came with mine too.

The string is the SHTF string. You never know when you will need a piece of string.

The bottle is full of poison. Drink it if you get captured.

It is a Yugo SKS. I like the idea of hanging onto the brass bottle in case I am captured. I think it would probably do the job if it was swalllowed!

It was much easier to clean than my SAR-1. (Maybe I am just more familiar with removing cosmoline these days.)

It really looks good. I'll take a pic when I get it back together. The only thing that concerns me is that the firing pin seems not nearly as "free" as my SAR. It isn't friction really. It is as if it is gummed up a bit. I am going to clean it as well as I can because I am concerned about slamfires if the pin can't move back out of the way easily.

It appears that SKSs (like AKs) don't have a spring to keep the firing pin away from the primer when I round is chambered.

There's a website that sells a firing pin & spring combo to fix that on SKS'.
