That looks like a nice case, very much like the pelican I use.

Yeah, I was going to get a Pelican but I heard that they don't open 180 degrees; is that true?

Do ya have any good tips on cutting the foam btw?

No, mine doesnt. It would be nice if it did. Mine is deeper, I have three layers of rifles/shotguns. Its more like a trunk than a rifle case.

I had a local guy cut the foam for me. He said that he does a lot of work for camera shops, you might want to ask some in your area.

That's a good idea but I'll probably end up doing it myself. I wonder if they sell replacement foam in case I fudge it up.

I guess the trick is being able to cut the bottom, or base out of the cut out.
Maybe cut it all the way through the foam, then glue a new bottom on. They do sell the foam in sheets at fabric stores and hobby lobby type stores.

there's a thread on arfcom about making using foam cutter like they sell in craft stores...basically a piece of wire that gets hot and makes a nice clean cut. you can make one out of a piece of wire, some wood, and a couple of D batteries. takes time to make, but the results are really really nice...much better than a razor in my opinion

Thanks raysheen, I saw those pics too. Although that method looks so professional, I think I'll use a razor (unless I can think of something better). I'll post pics when I get it done.

I use a metal case I found. It has wheels & another handle for rolling to/from the airport & car. It can hold an AR & a couple of pistols & a bunch of magazines. So far it's been on 8 trips & is holding up well. (my Marlin GuideGun fits it as well). The case has removable foam pallets (each pallet has tie-down straps) so I didn't have to cut out the foam.

I riveted lock hasps on the inside & use a cable with extra locks on the inside. I route the cable thru the firearms & back to the case. Even if you get past the 5 outside locks, you still have to deal with the ones on the inside.

Once everything is packed & checked by TSA, I lock it & put an old sea bag (duffel bag for you ground-pounders) on it & lock it as well. That way no prying eyes know what is in it, it looks like a duffel with dirty clothes in it.

Now all I need is an Aimpoint or Eotech and maybe a light and it'll be finished.

    How's it look?
