REM 870 Express or Moss 500 ?do both have plastic triggers

Ok new to shotguns here my only shotgun is a EASTFIELD model 916, from the 70's. Have been looking at these two REM 870 Express 12 ga. 18" 6+1 synthetic http://www.remington.com/products/fi...ic_7-round.asp
or Moss 500 12ga. 20" 7+1 http://www.mossberg.com/images/Mossb.../NEW/50577.jpg both are priced for $299, I read that REM has plastic/synthetic trigger group and MIM extractor does the moss? that might be a deciding factor. I hate to start a pi$$ing match and beat a dead horse about REM vs MOSS. I know both are good but if moss has them also then I'd go w/ the 870

The Rem 870 that you are considering is the exact HD shotgun that I bought last year (even the same price). Like you, I also considered the Moss 590. Truth is, to me the Mossy felt and shouldered best of the two. I chose the 870 because of many years of flawless experience with 870 Wingmasters. The fact that the trigger group was not metal was of no concern - it can be replaced if it's a problem. Same goes for the extractor. A HD shotgun probably gets fired less than any shotgun owned, so plastic, MIM, rough finish, doesn't matter - it's still a 870. IMHO
(I took it dove hunting last weekend just to put a couple of boxes of shells thru it, and it performed just like the wingmasters....and the cyl bore proved deadly for the birds.)

Like I said elsewhere. Mossy 500 or Rem 870? Ford or Chevy??? Pick one, both are quality guns.

That being said, I own two 500's. Ill stand by them any day.

OP,You should be ok with either one.

To tell on myself a bit...I own an 870.

I was hunting woodcock a few years back, got sand on my glove and went back to the trigger guard to not ND in the creek bottoms (cover with whole hand). Well I put sand in the works. The 870 would fire, would not fire, smack it a bit and it would fire (it was a handful btw). Well, it only took a bit to clean it out, good as new, went on hunting.

I find the 870 easy to take apart, that is what I like about it. I would be surprised if the m500 wasn't the same.

like i said both should be about the same.

    YMMV
