Such a thing as an AR that can fire .308 or 30.06 with only minor mods?

Was talking with a co-worker about rifles and he said he wanted an AR that cold fire both. He had read about some rifle or another that required a quick change of the bolt and another part or another, and figured that they must make an AR like that. I've only ever heard of a sniper rifle they outfitted be switched that was used in Vietnam. I think the rem 700. Is he dreaming, or I am really out of the loop?

that would be a crazy long mag-well. I suppose it might be possible using a lower reciever that could accept interchangable mag-wells, upper reciever with an enlarged ejection port, and with a new bolt and quick-change barrel nut. But then you'd basically be replacing the entire rifle, and I've never heard of anyone making something like that.

Is this hard to understand? Then why does it get unintelligible to some people when 5 little words are changed?

There is an AR15 maker out there that has interchangeable mag wells on their lower receiver that you can swap out and change from 223 length to 308 length and even longer. I'll try to get the name of it.

Tubby, according to what was on their site/in their reviews, they are still working on a .308 version, and there was no mention of a .30-06 version. So, yes, the MARCK-15 can convert to a lot of calibers, but neither of the ones that the OP was asking about...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

I don't see where it can be switched between 308 and 30.06 which is what he asked about? If I missed that, I stand corrected.

I am surprised to find an AR in 30.06 at all, but I'm still letting him pay for coffee. Heck, I'm gonna order a grande.
