    Remington AR-15

I'm pretty sure that we've discussed this before, but I just found some actual info on this piece. Seems interesting... if a little limited. Its available in a 18 and 22 inch barrel, and only with a camo finish. It's being advertised as a hunting rifle, but the natural pregression will lead to tactical-type AR's soon enough. MSRP of $999 so we'll see what the street price will be. I'm sure they'll start coming out with more bells and whistles as folks start picking them up.

they don't. It's a Bushmaster Varmiter w/Rem. roll marks and camo.
    Ugly camo, IMO

You're right, Rock...it ain't the prettiest pattern, is it?

Remington has made some really aggressive moves lately, and scuttlebutt is that they're not slowing down now. I understand that they're aquiring a handgun mfg. (I've not heard any solid word which one, but they've got the cash to buy Florida, so it won't be a shoddy name). Further, we've heard rumors about an optics company, too.

This R-1 idea is a good marketing idea, because lots of hunters use black rifles now (honestly, I'll never bring one of my AR's on a hunt, but to each his/her own). It seems to me that if you're close enough for a deer or elk to see that black rifle, you're close enough to kill it! I don't have camo shotguns, either, so at least I'm consistent, right?

A camo rifle doesn't make sense to me, cause we have to wear orange to rifle hunt anyway. Turkey and ducks , it makes sense, cause we can camo up.

What I saw in the link looks like a camoflaged version of my Bushmaster Varminter and that is an AR style rifle. Not the orange bolt action rifle in the picture you posted Scott. I do agree that the camo pattern does leave something to be desired. I prefer the black look of the Bushmaster. I mean if I'm going to own a "black gun I want it to be black".

Yes, they just bought Remingon Arms Company a few months ago after they bought Chrysler Corp.

Rumor is Remington is trying to get away from the Black Rifle persona of the AR15 and convince everyone on the "sporting use" issue.

The Sporting use of a EBR isn't to hunt coyotes or prairie dogs/chickens/ or pigs. The words Sporting/Hunting/Recreation appear nowhere in the 2A. Your right it is PR, I just wish they would make them in BLACK.

I agree. The 2A is about protection, not duck hunting. However, in light of HR1022, the new more restrictive AWB, the arms makers are trying to highlight the firearms as sporting rifles to try and ease the public eye. Some see it as a sellout. I'm not sure I like the "cloaking" method here but if it works for the anti's, it might work the the gun owners. Time will tell.
